We at National Stroke Association and the thousands of people we interact with every year offer our sincere thanks.
To All My Family and Friends,
I recently was accepted to be on hteNational Stroke Association ING NYC Marathon 2012 Team!
Not only do I look forward to experiencing the support of thousands of spectators as I run 26.2 miles from Staten Island to Queens, through Brooklyn and the Bronx, finishing in Central Park but I'm doing it for a very important reason: to make a difference in the world of stroke.
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and can strike at any moment and without warning. Here are some startling facts: Nearly 795,000 Americans will experience a stroke in 2012. At least 1 in 4 (25%-35%) of people who have a stroke each year will have another stroke within their lifetime. Within 5 years of a first stroke, the risk for another stroke can increase more than 40%. Recurrent strokes often have a higher rate of death and disability because parts of the brain already injured by the original stroke may not be as resilient. The public is dangerously misinformed about stroke which is one reason why I joined the National Stroke Association ING NYC Marathon 2012 Team to build awareness and raise funds to help those affected by stroke.
The day of my stroke I will never forget but I was one of the lucky ones and the effects of the stoke were able to be reversed over time. The mental affects of the stroke will always remain and make you realize how valuable each day is.
Thank you for helping making a difference in the lives of all people affected by stroke and for joining the fight against stroke.
I encourage you to send my Web page link to your friends and families so we can educate more people about stroke. Please share your thoughts by writing in my guest book. Sincerely,
If you would like, you can add your name and a short message to our Guest Book. Thank you.
National Stroke Association’s mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of stroke by developing compelling education and programs focused on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support for all impacted by stroke. Thank you for joining us to try and stop this devastating disease.
