Will you join me? It wasn't until my dad, Evan Rossignol, suffered a stroke in April 2016 that I really knew what a stroke was or what it could do to its victims. My dad was getting up to go to work when that blood clot changed the path of his life. A few weeks prior, when at the doctor, he had a clean bill of health. It's scary to think one day you will be fine, and the next, will change your life forever. My dad survived the stroke, but unfortunately the long and hard recovery was too much for him. He had to train his body to do things that we all take for granted. He had to learn to talk again, chew and swallow. It was devastating to see him go through that, but I'm glad I could have been there for him until his last breath. He did learn to talk again (had his sense of humor), and feed himself again. However, the stroke led to other problems in his body which made recovery not happen. I will forever be heart broken about what happened to my dad. He was such a kind and loving person and to see what he went through physcially, mentally and emotionally was so hard. I also have two uncles who have also suffered from a stroke and one of my unlces is currently dealing with multiple blood clots (please keep him in your prayers) My goal is to raise awareness about stroke, so we can find ways to better prevent it, or comeback from it. No one deserves to suffer from this horrible thing. I will be raising money from now until race date in October. If you'd like to join my team and participate with me, please do. Anything is appreciated. I can't do much to stop strokes myself, but I hope doing this is a little step in the right direction. The last words my dad ever said to me were "You are always so thoughtful" and I want to make sure I continue to live my life that way and make him proud. If you know anyone who has suffered, or is suffering from a stroke, let's walk for them too!
We are raising awareness and celebrating stroke survivors at the Phoenix Comeback Trail 5K - a charity event that supports the National Stroke Association. This 5K walk/fun-run empowers stroke survivors and caregivers to #ComebackStrong. We've set a fundraising goal to support the stroke rehabilitation and prevention efforts of the National Stroke Association.
Please support our team, and the 7 million stroke survivors in the United Sates, by making a donation today. Together, we can empower survivors and caregivers as they come back strong from stroke.
