Greetings Family and Friends!
I am raising awareness and celebrating stroke survivors at the Raleigh Comeback Trail 5K - a charity event that supports the National Stroke Association. This 5K walk/fun-run empowers stroke survivors and caregivers to #ComebackStrong. I have set a fundraising goal to support the stroke rehabilitation and prevention efforts of the National Stroke Association.
If you don't know my story please allow me to share some of the highlights. I say highlights because Living with stroke, for me, has been an ongoing event. I had my first stroke in 1989. It was two weeks after the birth of my son, Stephen, when I began having the worst headache of my life. I've had migraine headache since 5th grade then I was 32, so a long time! I knew I was in trouble when my "aura" returned for a second time. Aura is the disturbances experienced prior to onset of the head pain. Usually zig-zag lines in your field of vision, my pheriphal vision became blurry among other things. This disturbance lasts from 20-50 minutes. Once it subsides, the headache begins. Migraine can last for several hours to several days.
Please support me, and the 7 million stroke survivors in the United Sates, by making a donation today. Together, we can empower survivors and caregivers as they come back strong from stroke.
