A New Beginning.....A New Perspective!

At the age of 14 I was diagnosed with Becker's Muscular Distrophy. Since then my live has been a daily struggle, like a wild roller coaster ride. My neurological disease affects and deteriorates muscles in my legs, arms, back, pelvic area, hips and of course my heart. My heart is enlarged which causes a number of other problems besides muscle weakness.

Around 9 years ago after a number of cardiac arrests, the last two in a six hour period, a pacemaker/defibrillator was implanted in me. I am a Professional Abstract Artist/Musician/Motivational Thinker and I paint with my left arm which is my dominant one. On April 6 of 2012, an emergency surgery was necessary to replace a faulty lead(wire) in my pacemaker to prevent fatal consequences. Recovery was going very well for the first 9 days and then on day number 10 at 8:05pm I suffered a stroke due to atrial fibrillation that paralyzed the left side of my body which is my dominant side. It has been exactly 10 months since the stroke, the first 6 months I was under home care.

I am still under therapy and everything is going somewhat well but slow due to the preexisting muscle weakness and heart condition. On top of it I had to become right handed.

Through this horrible experience I've had the greatest support and care from my loving fiancée, Kristin, without her this situation would have been 10 times harder. The changes in our lives and relationship are dramatic and extremely challenging. Sometimes it feels like we are living a really bad nightmare. This has been very hard and very frustrating for the both of us. I am blessed and very fortunate to have her by my side every single day. She is a champion, my champion.

I've always been a very strong minded individual and self-motivated as well. I always refused to be a victim of circumstances. My power of will and determination does not allow me to ever quit at anything and it is not going to change now. I do not see difficulties, I see challenges and with Kristin's help, love and care I will beat this. No hardship will hold me down. I see this as a new beginning....
