Peggy J.

Healthcare Professional & Survivor

Due to her modest approach, one’s first meeting with Peggy Jones may not reveal her many outstanding accomplishments on behalf of stroke patients. During her participation at Chicago Area Stroke Task Force meetings and stroke system of care negotiations, Peggy applied her soft spoken manner to educate and remind stakeholders how to shape policy to create better outcomes for stroke patients. It was Peggy’s kind, yet strong direction that turned a room of negotiators, including opponents, from stalemated dialogue to re-focused, patient centered discussion. Eventually, Illinois Stroke Systems of Care legislation was passed and signed by the Governor.

Next, Peggy initiated a new stroke advocacy project by working collaboratively with the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network (ICAHN). Through her leadership, most of ICAHN’s members are prepared to meet the standards for Emergency Stroke Ready hospitals as established in the Stroke Systems of Care Act. Most of Peggy’s work is performed on a voluntary basis, yet she approaches it as a full time position giving her knowledge and time to ensure appropriate treatment for stroke patients.

Working with limited, or no financial resources, Peggy continues to utilize her creative abilities and strong personal relationships to reach stakeholders and decision makers in her effort to create better outcomes for stroke patients.  All this while enjoying so-called retirement, and spending time with grandchildren.

And one last item….Peggy is a stroke survivor!
