Cindy’s Comeback Trail

Cindy Lopez was just 36 years old when paramedics rushed her to a hospital where a neurologist discovered a blood clot. Today she is training for the National Stroke Association Comeback Trail 5K in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Oct. 8.

“One of my goals was to walk a 5K without my cane so when I searched for one, I found the Comeback Trail which is close to my birthday,” said Lopez who produced a series of videos for the National Stroke Association. “It is important for us as stroke survivors to join as a community to show that we are not victims willing to accept the cards that we’ve been dealt in life.”

Billy’s Road to Rio

Stroke survivor Billy Lister says he wouldn’t be on the road to Rio for the 2016 Paralympics if it wasn’t for the National Stroke Association.

“The National Stroke Association over the years has been a pivotal part of me moving forward and helping me to find my life and passion as a stroke survivor,” said the cycling champion

Lister is competing in four cycling events in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, through Sept. 18.

“I set a lofty goal for myself—to win two of the four medals,” said Lister. “If you’re going to do it, you might as well aim as high as you can.”
